According to a report of the Guardian of 08-09-2005 is the UK Ultraspeed Project becoming a serious contender for the north-south links, which had been announced in the election manifesto of the Labour party.
BBC Leeds published a radio report (available as a RealMedia format) of the Transrapid test facility TVE at Lathen/Emsland (Northern Germany) to this topic a day before.
After the announcement of the project in February a way course which shall cross the north-south freeway M62 in the zig-zag ball course was recently introduced. It more simply can cross the middle mountain range of Pennies going in north-south direction than a wheel track system. The following running-times at speeds of up to 311 mph are informed about
- London-Glasgow 120 minutes
- London-Birmingham-Leeds 60 minutes
- Leeds-Newcastle 30 minutes
- Newcastle-Glasgow 30 minutes
Before the realization of the project which could, however, master the magnetic railroad because of their environmental kindness best, although some hurdles in planning terms are expected.
Special need for action insists in Great Britain to replace the railroad system turned washed-out since this was neglected for a long time. Gave tragically serious accidents in the past. Out of this experience it would be also only too consistent to back the safest high speed train system which one surrounds the track and therefore cannot be derailed. In addition, head on-collisions of two vehicles technically aren't possibly due to the propulsion system. Furthermore, with the help of the elevated track the Transrapid more simply than every other traffic system can be lead above ground into the cities to avoid tunnels.
